happy earth day

Photobucket

its funny how much you can learn from children's books.
i was reminded of this book while reflecting on the current state of the environment. i found striking similarities.

Dr. Seuss' classic story warns of the harmful effects of industrialization, over-consumption, and consumerism. the story features a greedy Once-ler (Us) who basically rapes the earth of its natural goodness for his own profit. The Lorax (Al Gore) warns the once-ler, saying that if he keeps taking and taking from the earth, there will be nothing left. basically, the once-ler igores the lorax's warning, continues taking the earth's resources, and is left with nothing (no earth, no business).

so let's stop being once-lers and protect mama earth.
